Virginia AAA State Championship Tournament February 22 and 23, 2008

The Bulldogs concluded the 2007 – 2008 season with a 6th place finish at the Virginia AAA State Championship tournament. Westfield had a total of five medalist!

Outdistancing defending champions Langley by 37 points, the Bulldogs win their first Northern Regional title. Ten wrestlers advance to the Virginia State Tournament. Congratulations to our three Regional Champions Tyler Hutchens (130), Nick Grinups (140), and Jake Carey (145); runner-up Jarrod Branch (125); four third-place medalists Jeremy Ryan (112), Brandon Berling (135), Austin Fallon (171), and Lamar Owusu (215); and our two fourth place finishers Kevin Koch (152) and Greg Bush (189).

9 Feb 08 - Concorde District Championship
The Bulldogs are the Concorde District Champions for the fifth consecutive year. Congratulations to our five District Champions (Tyler Hutchens -130, Nick Grinups- 140, Jake Carey - 145, Kevin Koch - 152, and Greg Bush - 189), five runner-ups (John Orchard-Hays - 119, Jarrod Branch -125, Brandon Berling - 135, Austin Fallon - 171, and Lamar Owusu - 215), two third-place medalists (Gavin Seltzer -103 and Jeremy Ryan - 112), and our fourth place finisher (Kenny Tamres - 160). Thirteen wrestlers advance to Regionals.

Congratulations to Jake Carey for winning his fourth district title. He is the first four time district champion in school history.

With the Gold Team in New York for the Eastern States Classic, the Black Team traveled south to the Richmond area to compete in the Thomas Dale Duals. The Bulldogs were the tournament champions winning all five of their matches.
Eight wrestlers went undefeated Tanner Karl (112), Drew Morson (125), Kyle Arnold (130), Harry Van Trees (140), Ryan Branch (145), Chase Robson (152), Will Mattocks (171), and Brandon Wanish (285)

Battlefield Duals January 4th and 5th
|
To kick off the New Year the Westfield Bulldogs journeyed to the other side of Fairfax County to compete in the highly acclaimed Battlefield Duals at Hayfield High School where some of the top wrestling programs from Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York, Georgia and Virginia competed. The team won 6 of their 8 matches and ended up taking 6th place out of 15 teams.
Congratulations to Tyler Hutchens who went undefeated with 7 wins and was named the team’s outstanding wrestler.

Conestoga Valley Holiday Classic December 28th and 29th

Varsity Tournament
During the holidays, the Bulldogs traveled to Lancaster Pennsylvania to compete against some of the toughest teams in Central Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Delaware. The Bulldogs finished 5th out of 24 Teams and had nine medalists; a new school record. Tyler Hutchens won the 130 lbs weight class becoming Westfield's second champion at this tournament.
Also, in attendance at the tournament to help cheer our team and assist with coaching were 2007 Alumni Bulldogs Joel Hutchens and Paul Grinups. Their help and support are greatly appreciated.

Junior Varsity Tournament
Our Black Squad wrestlers competed in the Junior Varsity (JV) version of the Holiday Classic and took 3rd out of 22 teams. The Bulldogs had a total of eight medalists and two champions; Kyle Arnold (125 lbs) and Kevin Koch (152lbs).

Border War Battles December 15, 2007
|
For the fifth year in a row, the Westfield Bulldogs hosted the Border War Battles. Visiting teams included Paulsboro (NJ), Methacton (PA), James Madison, Manassas Park, and Lake Braddock High Schools. The Bulldogs finished the day winning four of the five matches with the only loss to Paulsboro High School.
Tyler Hutchens, Brandon Berling, and Brett Sposa were all undefeated for the day.

Tyler Hutchens was named the teams Outstanding Wrestler.

Jake Carey won his 158th career match. He is currently # 1 for Westfield in career wins.
