Virginia AAA State Championship Tournament
February 20 and 21, 2009

| The AAA Virginia State Tournament brought out the best in the Bulldogs. Junior Austin Fallon won the State Championship at 189 lbs, followed by Senior Brandon Berling’s third place finish at 130 lbs and Junior Nick Grinups third place finish at 145 lbs. Senior Jeremy Ryan finished his career with a sixth place finish at 112 lbs, and Junior Kyle Arnold captured a seventh place finish. State Qualifiers Brett Campbell (103), John Orchard-Hays (119), Jarrod Branch (125) and Kevin Koch (152) all wrestled well. The Bulldogs finished in seventh place in the state to solidify their position as one of the state’s powerhouse programs.

The Bulldogs Win Their Second Consecutive Northern Region Championship!

In dramatic fashion, the Westfield Bulldogs win their second straight Northern Region Championship. Going into the championship finals round, the Bulldogs had only a 8.5 lead over district and regional rival, the Robinson Rams. With Westfield - Robinson matchups in the final matches at the 130, 135, 145, and 189 lb weight classes, these bouts would determine the outcome of the tournament. Robinson's 103 lber started off with a regular decision over his opponent narrowing Westfield's lead, but Jeremy Ryan answered back with a win of his own restoring Westfield's 8.5 point advantage. Taking on 3 time state champion George Billy, John Orchard-Hays was unable to win his match. However, Brandon Berling was then able to increase the lead with an exciting victory over his Robinson opponent. With only three matches left, Westfield's victory was not assured until Kyle Arnold wrestled a tough match against state champion Roman Perryman. Losing by only a 4 - 0 decision, Kyle's was able to secure the Bulldog's victory. Nick Grinups and Austin Fallon finalized the tournament by winning their matches over their Robinson opponents.
Congratulations to our four Regional Champions (Jeremy Ryan -112, Brandon Berling -130, Nick Grinups - 145, and Austin Fallon - 189), two runner-ups (John Orchard-Hays -119 and Kyle Arnold- 135), three fourth-place medalists (Brett Campbell - 103, Jarrod Branch - 125, and Kevin Koch - 152), and our sixth place finisher (Harry Van Trees - 140). Nine wrestlers advance to the State on February 20 at Oscar Smith High School.

Congratulations to our four Northern Region Champions. Jeremy Ryan (112), Brandon Berling (130), and Austin Fallon (189) win their first Northern Region title, while Nick Grinups (145) captures his second title in the tournament.
This is the first season Westfield has had four Regional Champions!

The Bulldogs Claim Their Sixth Straight Concorde District Title!

| For the sixth consecutive year, the grappling Bulldogs win the Concorde District Champtionship. Congratulations to our six District Champions; Jeremy Ryan (112), John Orchard-Hays (119), Brandon Berling (130), Nick Grinups (145), Kevin Koch (152), and Austin Fallon (189); four runner=ups; Brett Campbell (103), Jarrod Branch (125), Kyle Arnold (135), and Harry Van Trees (140); our third place finishers Jamarcus Mumford (171) and Anthony Garmendia (285), and our fourth place finisher Dylan Doty (160). In all, 13 wrestlers advanced to the Northern Region Tournament.

Conestoga Valley Holiday Classic

Varsity Tournament
During the holidays, the Bulldogs traveled to Lancaster Pennsylvania to compete against some of the toughest teams in Central Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Delaware. The Bulldogs finished 7th out of 25 Teams and had six medalists. Kevin Koch won the 160 lbs weight class becoming Westfield's third champion at this tournament.

Junior Varsity Tournament
Our Black Squad wrestlers competed in the Junior Varsity (JV) version of the Holiday Classic and took 4th out of 17 teams. The Bulldogs had a total of seven medalists; Dennon Caranza-Kee (2nd), Tommy Stevenson (3rd), Nick Lehman (4th), Ben Kendrick (4th), Artie Pickett (5th), Gavin Seltzer (5th), and Eric Alter (5th).

Warhawk Duals

The Bulldogs took 2nd at the 8 team Warhawk Duals, losing in the finals to the number 2 state ranked Fauquier Falcons. John Orchard-Hays, Brandon Berling, Jordan Lehman, Harry Van Trees, Nick Grinups and Kevin Koch were all undefeated for the day.

The Bulldogs opened the 2008 - 2009 season with a second place finish at the prestigious Northern Region Classic. The Dawgs had 9 medalists:
